Goodbye 2008

Looking back on 2008…

Lessons I learnt:

1) It's never the end of the world… until the world literally ends… for real.

2) Nobody is worth holding onto if the person doesn't hold onto you.

3) The best of stories/adventures/movies that you can be amazed by are never as good as the one that you make of your own life.

4) Every moment spent in your virtual life online is every moment not spent in your real life.

5) If you've never learnt to love yourself, you only learn to do so after you lose the one who loves you most.

6) If nobody will go with you the hardest part of your journey, you can still make that journey even if it's really really difficult.

7) Nobody has ever died of heartbreak.  Don't kid yourself.

8) The worst you were dreading is sometimes the only thing that can set you and your loved ones free.

9) The worst of grief will still fade with time.  If it doesn't, there is always alcohol (don't underestimate the power of beer).

10) Other than those moments which are spent hating you or shaking their heads at you, people who hate you really don't spend much time at all thinking of you.  So don't waste your time thinking of them.  But feel free to think a lot of the people who do care about you.

11) Happiness is not so much getting exactly what you want, or the condescending forms that TV dramas and lala-land people are always asking you to be contented with but the odd realisation that you really are happier the way you are now than if you had gotten what you wanted.

Goodbye 2008.  You were the hardest year by far.  Maybe it's not so much about hoping that 2009 will be 'better' but an acknowledgment that without the damage that had been done, there would not have been any way I could have voluntarily walked out of my self-made straitjackets.

Thank you 2008 for setting me free.

I am sure 2009 will be less stressful. You have weathered 2008 and all the trials and tribulations it afforded. Keep up taking those wonderful pictures and sharing them along with your insights into what is happening in your life that keeps your spirits up. Good luck with the diving. Hope to see more marine life pix also. I always look forward to hearing what you have to say and seeing your wonderful pictures. Happy New Year.

  5. Thanks Susan ๐Ÿ˜› speaking of marine life pics… I am considering doing a course to learn and then teach underwater photography. Problem is… I always thought of it as something you learn as you go along… so having a course which gives you some sort of formal certification to allow you to teach underwater photography sounds kind of … strange.. heh…
I hope you're having a great New Year's Day today! Happy New Year! ๐Ÿ™‚
